What it's actually like
Cabedelo is the main riding beach of Viana do Castelo, in the north of Portugal, at the mouth of the river Lima. Its northern end has flat water beside the jetty, and the beach is wide, with plenty of space to set up and launch. Duotone Pro Center Viana sits at the northern end and FeelViana’s sport hotel and water centre are on the same shore.
The schools describe a summer Nortada from the north and north-west, side-shore, that starts around noon and blows until sunset from April to September, and south to south-westerly wind in winter. The record, from a 1.5 km weather model grid, counts far fewer windy days than that: in its best summer month, August, about one day in four clears 12 knots for three daylight hours or more, and the mean over those rideable hours is about 13 knots.
