Las Américas, Tenerife

What it's actually like

Las Américas is the resort strip on Tenerife’s south coast, in the municipality of Arona. La Fitenia is a surf break in Playa de las Américas, with surf schools along the front and the bathing beach of Playa del Camisón just to the east.

NP7’s Tenerife guide lists it as a wave spot for windsurfers, experts only and best in a westerly, and rates the La Fitenia area highly for experts, though it is the epicentre of tourism. The Kite and Windsurfing Guide says the breaks of Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos are usually left to surfers, and that La Fitenia, in front of the Parque Santiago III apartments, is the insider tip for riders.

Tenerife South airport is about 14 km away in a straight line, Surf-Forecast says, and about 20 km by road.
