Lo Stagnone is a shallow lagoon on the coast of Sicily between Marsala and Trapani, closed off from the sea by Isola Grande. DPC puts it at about seven kilometres long and three wide, and KiteLab says the water is no more than 1 to 1.5 metres deep, shallow enough to walk to the islands.
The lagoon and its islands are a nature reserve, the Riserva Naturale Orientata Isole dello Stagnone, and the schools and bars along the shore work within its rules.
The record finds the most wind from December to March, when about four to five days in ten clear 12 knots for three daylight hours or more, with March the pick at 53 per cent.
36% of days clear 12 kt for three daylight hours or more.
In July the wind most often sits at 4 to 7 kt or 8 to 11 kt (30% of daylight hours each). No daylight hour is over 12 kt on at least half the days. The best hour is 3pm, on 36% of days. See both charts in the full report
