St Catherine’s Beach, also known as Gates Bay, lies past the town of St George’s at the island’s north-eastern tip, below the St Regis hotel, with Fort St Catherine standing on the point at its northern end.
The local kite community’s spot guide lists it as Fort St Catherine’s: a beach facing east, with choppy water off the sand, and a break about a mile off the coast that gets going when a hurricane swell comes in.
Achilles Bay, a small beach about 130 m north-west of St Catherine’s Beach, round the point on the North Shore, is the second launch.
