Akyaka is a town on Gökova Bay in Muğla, on Turkey’s south Aegean coast, beside the Azmak river. The kite beach is Akçapınar, a long sandy beach with a shallow launching area and flat water in front of it. Gökova Kitesurf Centre describes the wind as on-shore from the west, and its windiest months as May to September.
WindChaser’s wind record does not see the Akyaka wind. The 7 km model behind it shows fewer than four days in a hundred over 12 knots in any month, which does not match the thermal the beach is known for. Until a station check exists, this page quotes no wind strength and its figures should not be read as the bay’s. OceanSoul describes a thermal that builds every morning and holds until sunset, and Kiteguide places it around midday and into the afternoon.
2% of days clear 12 kt for three daylight hours or more.
In August the wind most often sits at 4 to 7 kt (50% of daylight hours). No daylight hour is over 12 kt on at least half the days. The best hours are 2pm to 6pm, each on 2% of days. See both charts in the full report
