Tidal. The club says its slipway gives access at all states of the tide. Hours per tide state unknown until tide data arrives.

Tide data not yet available for this spot. The record holds wind, air and waves, not tide. Until a tide source is connected, the tables above stay empty rather than estimated. What the guide says about tide is on the next page, in words.

Browndown Ranges, shingle & club racing

Every hazard on the spot page, repeated here in full. Read this before you get wet.

Conditions change. Check local rules and conditions before you ride.

Browndown RangesWhile red flags fly to signal firing, no person may enter or remain in the Browndown land area or sea area, or bring a vessel into them. The flags fly at half mast half an hour before firing and at full mast while firing takes place; at night a red light is shown. The range starts at the shore by the junction of Queens Road and Marine Parade East, where the sailing club’s Signal Station stands, and its sea area runs south-east along the shore and out into the Solent.
EmergenciesIn an emergency call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
Shingle beachThe beach is shingle. Take care launching and landing.
Club racingLee-on-the-Solent Sailing Club races from March to November and berths members’ boats. Keep clear of races and of boats using the slipway.
Shingle and the slipway

The beach is shingle, with a strip of grass in front of it. The sailing club has its own slipway at the Signal Station, at the end of Marine Parade East, and says it has access at all states of the tide. It is a members’ club: nothing read says whether visitors may launch from the slipway.

Browndown Ranges, racing and the tide

The Browndown Ranges start at the shore by the junction of Queens Road and Marine Parade East, where the club’s Signal Station stands, and the range’s sea area runs south-east along the shore and out into the Solent. While red flags fly to signal firing, no person may enter or remain in the land area or the sea area, or bring a vessel into them. The flags fly at half mast half an hour before firing and at full mast during firing, with red lights at night. The club races from March to November. The Solent is tidal: the club publishes ADMIRALTY tide predictions for Lee. In an emergency call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Where each section of this report comes from. Record is measured. Modelled is computed by a formula because no measurement exists yet; it looks like data and is not. Written is WindChaser's editorial copy, compiled from the sources below.

The record

Hourly wind, 2022 to 2026, from Météo-France AROME France HD via Open-Meteo: a 1.5 km grid, read at the cell 0.5 km from the spot. It knows the wind over the cell, not the gust on the sand in front of you, and it knows the bearing, not the coastline: "side-onshore" is a rider's reading of the bearing. Each month is counted over three to four years.

What we could not source for Lee-on-the-Solent

A wind direction range written for Lee itself rather than by reference to Hill Head. Whether visitors may launch from the sailing club. How often the Browndown Ranges fire. Gosport Borough Council beach rules, and a bathing water classification (both services refused every request). The water state at Lee itself, and a water temperature. Crowds by month and a first-hand reading of the local vibe. A windsurf or wing school or hire, and a stay confirmed on its own site (the nearest guest house’s own site did not load). Tide windows. A station check on the wind record. A licensed photograph.

Conditions change. Check local rules and conditions before you ride.
