What it's actually like

Knokke-Heist is where the Belgian coast runs out. Sand all the way from the port of Zeebrugge to the Zwin dunes at the Dutch border, the Zeedijk, our sea wall promenade, running the length of it, and a string of water sports clubs on the beach in front. Riding here is a club affair, and I love it for that.

You rig next to the same faces every windy weekend, you come in with salt in your eyebrows, and it ends with one beer and a gear chat.

The sea sits around 7°C from January to March, so the change in the car park is a race: thick suit on, hood up, gloves last, and down the sand before the cold gets into your hands.
