Per-launch tide notes

Al Ahyaa lagoon, centre beaches
Low—Mid—High—

The guides call the lagoon tide dependent: pools and very shallow patches at low tide, the flattest water too. Which state suits which level is unknown until tide data arrives.

Seahorse Bay
Low—Mid—High—

The club describes the spot as tide dependent, with the standing area changing with the water level. No tide data is held.

Tide data not yet available for this spot. The record holds wind, air and waves, not tide. Until a tide source is connected, the tables above stay empty rather than estimated. What the guide says about tide is on the next page, in words.

Shallows, coral & centre zones

Every hazard on the spot page, repeated here in full. Read this before you get wet.

Conditions change. Check local rules and conditions before you ride.

Centre zones and briefingThe CDWS audit protocol for water sports centres says the brochure centres give riders must cover using a flotation vest, which it calls mandatory for the activity, and staying within the area designated for the activity and shown on the map. Centres must also advise riders on the locations of reefs and rocks to avoid. Use your centre's launch area and zones and ask for the briefing.
Protected coral reefPrime Minister's Decree No. 4419 of 2025 declares the Great Coral Reef in the Red Sea a marine protected area and tasks the governors of the Red Sea and South Sinai with measures to protect and manage it. Whether the Al Ahyaa lagoon lies inside the protected area could not be confirmed. The CDWS protocol lists damaging or breaking reefs or marine life among the violations centres must follow up. Do not stand on or ride over coral.
Shallows at low tideThe lagoon is tide dependent. At low tide pools appear and there are very shallow patches. Check the depth before you ride fast, jump or foil.
Shells, stones and coralThe bottom is mostly sand, but there are shells, stones and coral in places. Wear neoprene shoes.
Strong daysIn the peak months the wind can reach 30 to 35 kt. Size down early and come in if you are overpowered.
Heat and sunAugust is very hot. Cover up, drink plenty of water and take breaks in the shade between sessions.
Shells, stones and coral

The lagoon bottom is mostly sand, with shells, stones and coral in places, and an outer reef separates the lagoon from the open sea. Wear neoprene shoes, never stand on coral, and ask your centre where the reefs and rocks to avoid are.

Low-tide shallows and the deep pool

The lagoon is tide dependent. At low tide pools appear and there are very shallow patches. There is an always-deep pool inside the lagoon, and deeper water at the lagoon's edge where foilers ride.

Sources, and their limits

Where each section of this report comes from. Record is measured. Modelled is computed by a formula because no measurement exists yet; it looks like data and is not. Written is WindChaser's editorial copy, compiled from the sources below.

§WhatSourceLimit
01Kite month sharesRecordCounted at 12 kt for three daylight hours from ecmwf_ifs at 9 km, cell 1.97 km from the spot, no correction.
01Windsurf and Wing month sharesRecordCounted at 13 kt (Windsurf) and 12 kt (Wing) from the same series, by the same rule as the Kite share. No longer the Kite share raised to a curve (WC-024 phase 4).
01Speed bands, hour-of-day sharesRecordCounted from the same hourly series as the shares: daylight hours in each 4 kt band, and the share of days over the threshold at each hour from 8am to 6pm. The same charts as the spot page.
01Direction, strength, when it blowsWrittenFrom centre and guide pages, cross-checked against the record (NW in every month) and the Hurghada Airport station (NNW).
02The month's recordsRecordMonth detail. ECMWF IFS HRES at 9 km, the cell 2.0 km from the spot; gusts on the lagoon can exceed it.
03Stays, schools and kitWrittenChecked on each business’s own website or a named rider source, most recently on 27 September 2026. Price bands only where a price is published.
04Tide windowsMissingNo tide source in the pipeline. The section renders its empty state.
05Hazards, shallows, coralWrittenCentre rules from the CDWS audit protocol. Reef protection from the State Information Service announcement of Decree 4419/2025 (4 December 2025); the decree text and its boundaries were not read. Physical hazards from centres and guides.
06Airports, access, packing, kite sizesWrittenWater temperature from the CDWS Hurghada page, not the record. Transfer times differ between sources (15 to 30 minutes).
06Local zoningMissingNo Red Sea Governorate or port rule on kite zones, and no rule on independent kiting outside the centres, could be read.

The record

Hourly wind, 2017 to 2026, from ECMWF IFS HRES via Open-Meteo: a 9 km grid, read at the cell 2.0 km from the spot. It knows the wind over the cell, not the gust on the sand in front of you, and it knows the bearing, not the coastline: "side-onshore" is a rider's reading of the bearing. Each month is counted over nine to ten years.

What we could not source for Hurghada

The text and boundaries of Decree 4419 of 2025, so whether the lagoon is inside the protected reef. Any Red Sea Governorate or Hurghada port rule on kite zones. Whether independent kiting without a centre is allowed. A windsurf centre in north Hurghada active in 2026. Tide tables. Windsurf and wing thresholds run through the hourly record. Price bands. Where any of these is missing above, the section says so rather than filling itself.

Conditions change. Check local rules and conditions before you ride.
