Per-launch tide windows

Cumbuco village beach
Low—Mid—High—

The guides note a wider, flatter beach at low tide and more chop at high tide. Which state suits which level is unknown until tide data arrives.

Lagoa do Cauípe
Low—Mid—High—

The guides tie the lagoon's shallows to its water level, not to the sea tide. No tide or level data is held.

Tide data not yet available for this spot. The record holds wind, air and waves, not tide. Until a tide source is connected, the tables above stay empty rather than estimated. What the guide says about tide is on the next page, in words.

Sandbanks, shorebreak & lagoon shallows

Every hazard on the spot page, repeated here in full. Read this before you get wet.

Conditions change. Check local rules and conditions before you ride.

Distance from the beachThe Brazilian Navy standard for sport and recreation, NORMAM-211, gives the area for kitesurfing as from 200 metres beyond the beach baseline, which on sea beaches is the line where the waves break. It lists the areas next to beaches reserved for bathers among its safety areas, and leaves it to state or municipal government to set out how beach waters are shared. Check any signs on the beach and ask a school where to launch and ride out.
Buoyancy aidThe Ceará harbour master's rules list kitesurfing among the activities for which a class V buoyancy aid is obligatory. The summary table in the same rules, like the national standard, only recommends one, and a helmet. Wear one, and ask a school what applies where you ride.
Vehicles on the beachBuggies and 4x4s drive the beach, including the run to Lagoa do Cauípe. Always have someone spotting traffic when you rig and launch, and never lay lines across a vehicle track.
Swimmers and crowdsThe village beach is shared with swimmers and fishermen, most of all at weekends, and hundreds of kites fly in season. Launch and land clear of people and keep your distance from riders learning.
Shallows at the lagoonLagoa do Cauípe is shallow in places and its depth changes with the water level. Check the depth before you ride fast or foil.
TheftSome visitors report theft of valuables and kite gear. Do not leave kit or valuables unattended on the sand, and use storage at a school or your stay.
Sandbanks and shorebreak

The village beach is sand, with sandbanks and a small shorebreak. Low tide widens the beach and the water is a bit flatter. High tide narrows the beach towards the palms and brings more chop. Walk your launch line at low water once before you ride it.

Shallows at the lagoon

Lagoa do Cauípe is shallow in places and its depth changes with the water level. Check the depth before you ride fast or foil, and give way to the crowd at midday in season.

Sources, and their limits

Where each section of this report comes from. Record is measured. Modelled is computed by a formula because no measurement exists yet; it looks like data and is not. Written is WindChaser's editorial copy, compiled from the sources below.

§WhatSourceLimit
01Kite month sharesRecordCounted at 12 kt for three daylight hours from ecmwf_ifs at 9 km, cell 2.81 km from the spot, no correction.
01Windsurf and Wing month sharesRecordCounted at 13 kt (Windsurf) and 12 kt (Wing) from the same series, by the same rule as the Kite share. No longer the Kite share raised to a curve (WC-024 phase 4).
01Speed bands, hour-of-day sharesRecordCounted from the same hourly series as the shares: daylight hours in each 4 kt band, and the share of days over the threshold at each hour from 8am to 6pm. The same charts as the spot page.
01Direction, strength, when it blowsWrittenFrom published school and spot guides, cross-checked against the record's predominant direction (ESE and E, August to November).
02The month's recordsRecordMonth detail. ECMWF IFS HRES at 9 km, the cell 2.8 km from the spot; gusts on the sand can exceed it.
03Stays, schools and kitWrittenChecked on each business’s own website or a named rider source, most recently on 27 September 2026. Price bands only where a price is published.
04Tide windowsMissingNo tide source in the pipeline, and no level data for the lagoon. The section renders its empty state.
05Hazards, sandbanks, shallowsWrittenRules from the Navy standard NORMAM-211 and the Ceará harbour master's NPCP-CE. Physical hazards from guides. Locations described, not surveyed.
06Airports, access, packing, kite sizesWrittenSizes are derived from the guides' season range, not a fitted quiver. Water temperature is from guides, not the record.
06Local zoningMissingNo municipal kitesurf zoning for Cumbuco and no rule of the Lagamar do Cauípe protected area could be read from a primary source.

The record

Hourly wind, 2017 to 2026, from ECMWF IFS HRES via Open-Meteo: a 9 km grid, read at the cell 2.8 km from the spot. It knows the wind over the cell, not the gust on the sand in front of you, and it knows the bearing, not the coastline: "side-onshore" is a rider's reading of the bearing. Each month is counted over nine to ten years.

What we could not source for Cumbuco

Tide tables and lagoon water levels. Municipal kitesurf zoning for Cumbuco and the rules of the Lagamar do Cauípe protected area. Windsurf and wing thresholds run through the hourly record. Price bands, operator contacts and brands stocked beyond one school. Coordinates for the launches. Where any of these is missing above, the section says so rather than filling itself.

Conditions change. Check local rules and conditions before you ride.
