What we collect, and what we do not.

The short version

Windchaser is free and you do not need an account to use it. If you browse the website or use the iOS app without signing in, we do not ask you for any personal information, we do not track you across other websites, and we run no advertising software.

On the website we count visits with PostHog and Ahrefs Web Analytics, without cookies and without building a profile of you. The iOS app runs no analytics.

The iOS app

The app has no sign-in and no account. It reads wind, forecast and spot information from our servers and shows it to you. It sends no personal information anywhere.

If you allow location access, your position is used on your device to estimate how far each spot is from you. It is not stored and it is not sent to us or to anyone else. You can refuse or withdraw that permission at any time in iOS Settings, and the rest of the app carries on working.

Spots you save are kept on your device. They are not synced to us, and they are removed when you delete the app.

The website

Browsing the site anonymously stores a small amount of information in your browser to remember your preferences: your chosen language, your light or dark theme, and any search or spots you have saved. This lives in your browser only. We cannot read it, it is not sent to us, and clearing your browser data removes it.

We set no advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not use Google Analytics.

To understand how the site is used, we run PostHog and Ahrefs Web Analytics. No cookie is set and nothing is stored on your device, so one visit cannot be linked to the next. What is recorded is the pages you view, the website that sent you, your approximate country worked out from your connection, your browser and device type, and which links and buttons are used. Your email address is never sent, even when you are signed in.

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, none of this is loaded and the site works exactly the same.

If you choose to sign in

Signing in on the website is optional. If you do, we ask for an email address and send you a single-use link. We store that email address, and a profile record holding only what you choose to give us, so we can recognise you next time.

We use your email address to sign you in. We do not sell it, we do not share it with advertisers, and we do not add you to a mailing list without you asking.

Who processes data for us

We keep the service running with a small number of suppliers, and they only handle what they need to:

• Supabase hosts our database and, if you sign in, your account record.
• Vercel serves the website and, like any web server, records standard request logs.
• Railway runs the service that assembles forecasts.
• PostHog receives the anonymous usage counts described above, stored in the European Union.
• Ahrefs receives the anonymous visit counts described above.
• Open-Meteo supplies weather and climate data. We query it for a location, never for a person.

We do not sell personal information to anyone, and we never have.

Your rights

If you have signed in, you can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and everything attached to it. Write to us and we will action it. If you have never signed in, we hold nothing about you to give you or delete.

Children

Windchaser is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Changes

If what we collect changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated. We will not quietly start collecting something new.
